City appeals for nominations for book celebrating brilliant Birmingham women
Inspiring women who have helped to shape the city of Birmingham will be immortalised in a new book as part of the city council’s Birmingham Remembers campaign.
To mark the centenary of women winning the right to vote, Birmingham City Council is joining forces with local independent publisher The Emma Press and writer Louise Palfreyman to create a bedtime book with a difference – highlighting the pioneering women who have made outstanding contributions to civic life.
Now the people of Birmingham are being asked to nominate inspirational women from Birmingham’s past and present, from all walks of life, online at www.brilliantbirminghamwomen.co.uk.
All nominations will be presented to Spark Young Writers – a Writing West Midlands initiative involving children across school years 3 to 12 – for them to choose the 30 most inspiring women they feel should be in the book, which will be launched in October. The title of the book will be decided by a panel of women from the city.
The deadline to nominate brilliant Birmingham women has been extended to Sunday, 8 April 2018. More information on the book can be found here.
