Progressive Employers Group Focuses On Value Of Empowerment
Progressive employers from across the West Midlands are being invited to experience the power of ‘standing management on its head’ at a business event in Birmingham.
The Progressive Employers Group (PEG) is holding a workshop on the upside down management model of retail entrepreneur John Timpson at its first meeting since being launched this summer.
The management principle of the chairman and owner of Timpson’s focuses on putting employees at the forefront of running a business.
The ‘Value of Empowerment’ event will be held at Birmingham City University’s Curzon Building on October 11 and is expected to attract strong interest from business owners, directors, HR leaders and anyone considering their future talent pool.
The group has been established to allow investment-minded employers in the West Midlands to come together to share best practice and help strengthen the region’s employment market.
Businesses from across the region attended the launch of the group which has been instigated by people management and recruitment specialists Katie Bard and sponsored by The Big Cat Agency.
Organisations involved in the project include Glide Utilities, Dolphin Index Organisation and Customer Plus.
John Mortimer, CEO and co-founder of the Angela Mortimer Group, which includes Birmingham-based Katie Bard, said: “The Progressive Employers Group recognises that employees are an investment, not a cost.
“Member companies want to create competitive advantage by leveraging their investment in employees through innovative policies and practices, which in turn will help transform the region’s employment scene and help overcome problems around skills shortage and employee retention.
“John Timpson is widely recognised as one of the country’s most successful entrepreneurs and his upside down management model puts people at its heart.
“This event will enable employers attending to look at the value of his approach and empowerment in general.”
The event will take place at 5 Cardigan Street in Birmingham from 4pm to 6pm. To register to attend, or express an interest in the Progressive Employers Group, contact John.Mortimer@angelamortimer.com or follow @PEGBham on Twitter for details.
