Colmore’s Nominated Charity 2015

Colmore Business District’s nominated charity for 2014/15 was Birmingham Citizens Advice Bureau. Previous nominated charities have included Children’s Liver Disease Foundation, the Rape and Sexual Violence Project and The Prince’s Trust.

Birmingham Citizens Advice Bureau supports over 30,000 people each year.  Many of  their clients are in crisis and can be at risk of losing their homes, jobs or families.

They also provide advice to some of the most vulnerable sections in society: people with cancer come to them for advice on how to financially adjust, disabled people come to them for help with complicated forms and procedures. The advice they provide covers a multitude of issues including employment, consumer, debt, benefits, health, tax, housing and immigration.  They provide assistance through four drop-in bureaux, a telephone and email advice line and outreach services.

Their 250 strong trained volunteer workforce supports people at a time when people need it most. 40% of their volunteers go on to find paid employment in a variety of sectors.

Over the course of 2014/15, Colmore BID hosted a range of fundraising events, including quizzes and social events, raising over £6,500 for Birmingham Citizens Advice Bureau.

Our nominated charity for 2016 is Sifa Fireside.  Click here to find out more
