Colmore Business District Bake Off 2015

As the BBC’s Great British Bake Off finished for another year, some of us were  in mourning and wondering what to do with our Wednesday evenings.

To help,  Colmore BID decided to team up with University College Birmingham (UCB) to put on our own Bake Off competition for all baking enthusiasts in the District.

During the first round, colleagues competed against each other in their own in-house bake off and chose their best baker. The winner went through to the next round to represent their business in the bake off finals.

For the next stage of the competition, the winner from each organisation had to bake a duplicate of their winning product for the judges from UCB and Colmore Business District.   The judges selected the bakers who they believed had produced the best baked goods. The winners of this round were be invited to take part in the live final which was held in the impressive state of the art kitchen facility at UCB on 15 December 2015.

During the evening, the finalists completed two tasks. The first was to produce a ‘batch of 12 identical Christmas treats’. The second was to decorate a seasonal cake, such as traditional fruitcake, stollen or a yuletide log. These tasks had to be completed within an allocated time period of 2 hours.

Employees from the District were invited to come along and watch the bakers whilst they worked.  They also had the chance to win the finalists’ creations.
