Support SIFA Fireside to Help Birmingham’s Homeless Adults

Colmore BID have been supporting SIFA Fireside since November 2015 and so far has raised £21,000.00 which goes towards a variety of items and services to help homeless adults, or those in danger of becoming homeless.

This year, Sifa Fireside celebrate their tenth anniversary. The charity was formed in 2007 through the merger of well established Birmingham charities: SIFA (Supporting Independence from Alcohol) set up in 1982, and the Fireside Charity set up in 1983. Collectively they have been delivering services for over 30 years.

Today, SIFA Fireside works seven days a week with some of the most vulnerable adults in society. Many of the people they work with – their clients – have complex mental and physical health problems, some have addictions, and all are socially excluded. Sifa Fireside run a daily Drop-In service where they provide on average 3,404 meals, over 100 people given clothes and 429 showers each month for their clients.

The Drop-In sessions are the frontline service of SIFA Fireside’s operations, acting as a gateway for clients to access  other longer-term support services such as services such as crisis support, welfare rights advice, money and debt advice, housing advice, tenancy support, health and wellbeing clinics, employment and training, and help reducing offending.

All services are free and confidential and whilst the charity does receive some funding from a range of sources including Birmingham City Council, Big Lottery, charitable trusts, corporate sponsors and individual donations, The charity does have a shopping list, which is where you can help to make a difference. This is the ‘if money was no object list’.  If you can help in any way, please contact Melissa Roche on 0121 766 1700 or email  office@sifafireside.co.uk

She is still very much involved within SIFA Fireside and has many stories to tell. It would be a legacy to all the work she has done for the homeless and this could be a project whereby her story could be published and sold (she gives permission), with proceeds going back into the charity as well as raising SIFA Fireside’s profile.
