Challenging young people to create a lasting legacy in Birmingham – free leadership programme for 18-25 year olds

05 August 2025

At a time when the city of Birmingham is looking to young people to help shape its future, the Common Purpose Birmingham Legacy Programme aims to support the city in creating a lasting legacy and creating an opportunity for up to 100 participants.

This free, two-day leadership programme will challenge participants to think through what they want their generation’s legacy to be and is sponsored by Common Purpose, Aston University, HMPPS, Trowers & Hamlins and Unity Trust Bank.

The programme will take place on 15 and 16 October and is open to all 18-25 year olds, where they are working, studying, caring, training, volunteering, campaigning or unemployed.

“We need to create space to support and hear from Birmingham’s young people about their big ideas and long-term thinking – but also to make that an inter-generational dialogue – which is what this programme will do. It’s designed to empower young people and give them the skills, confidence, voice, and agency to be strong leaders of the future, as well as an opportunity to connect, learn and work with leaders in the city, and their peers on the programme,” explains Louise Teboul, UK Partnerships Director at Common Purpose.

“Together they will build social capital to continue to make a positive impact across Birmingham for years to come. This programme is an opportunity for young people to join a vibrant, growing community of change-makers, discover their purpose, craft their identity, and level up their leadership skills.”

“The programme is open for applications now and we want to ensure we have a diverse peer group, that reflects the city’s population and all parts of the city – so we’re asking for help and support in sharing details of this great opportunity. Anyone can find out more, or apply, by visiting Birmingham Legacy or get in touch with me.”
