Birmingham City Council Launches Public Consultation on City Centre Wayfinding Totems

29 October 2025

Birmingham City Council has launched a public consultation to gather feedback on the city centre’s wayfinding totems.

The totems are freestanding, map-based signs that help pedestrians navigate the urban environment. The consultation is now live and will remain open until Friday 28 November 2025.

In partnership with the West Midlands Growth Company and Transport for West Midlands, the council is undertaking a refresh of the existing wayfinding network. This initiative aims to:

  • Update the mapping on current totems
  • Replace any missing or damaged totems
  • Install new totems where needed

The consultation invites stakeholders and members of the public to share their views on how the current system is working and suggest improvements to enhance the pedestrian experience in Birmingham city centre.

An image of a typical wayfinding totem has been provided to help illustrate the concept.
