Join us on Saturday 5 July for a full day of flavour-packed live demonstrations from some of Birmingham’s most exciting chefs, venues, and culinary creatives. From handmade Italian pasta to bold cocktails and creative ice-cream sundaes, each session offers a unique taste experience with something for every foodie to enjoy. Recipe sheets, tasters, and insider tips await, all hosted by Phil Oldershaw, a celebrated media presenter and event host with over 30 years of experience in the business.

Pip, Owner of Pip’s Hot Sauce and Birmingham Artisan Markets
Kick off your day with a whimsical and history-inspired creation – The Colmore Sundae. Pip demonstrates how to build a delicious ice-cream sundae entirely from scratch, using ingredients and inspiration drawn from the Colmore District’s rich heritage. No specialist equipment needed – just imagination, flavour, and a sweet tooth. Recipe sheets will be available to take home!

Glynn Purnell, Owner of Plates by Purnell’s
We’re thrilled to welcome chef Glynn Purnell to our demo kitchen. Glynn is the owner of Purnell’s Restaurant and Plates by Purnell’s in Birmingham. A celebrated British chef, restaurateur, and TV personality, Glynn is renowned for his bold, innovative approach to modern British cuisine. Glynn will be serving pan-fried stone bass over a lemon-infused almond and white bread purée (ajo blanco), topped with buttered grapes, butterbeans, rocket cress, and a touch of sea salt. He’ll also prepare crispy aubergine spears in a spiced tempura batter, paired with a rich honey-truffle soy dressing and finished with chives and salt.

Hotel du Vin
Join Greg Pryce, Head Chef at Hotel du Vin Birmingham, and Matt Powell, Group Chef Director for the Hotel du Vin group, as they bring a taste of refined indulgence to the demo kitchen. Watch them craft a showstopping Mont Blanc Soufflé, elevated with Rich Juragel and a luxurious Parmesan sauce – a perfect blend of classic technique and bold flavour.

Chef Mimmo Ruggiero, La Bellezza
Watch Chef Mimmo, a Naples-born culinary master, craft Burratello Classico: handmade burratelli pasta filled with smoked stracciatella and ricotta, served with a rich datterini tomato sauce, green oil, and basil. With 15+ years of international experience and a deep love for his Nonna’s recipes, Mimmo brings Big Mamma’s bold, Italian magic to life – and yes, there will be samples! 🍝

Melissa, wine expert and manager at Loki Wine in Great Western Arcade, will guide you through an informal and informative tasting journey. Discover unique wines from around the world and learn how to pair them with your favourite dishes. It’s all about discovering new favourites in a relaxed and friendly setting.

Dirty Martini
Wrap up the day in style with a cocktail showcase from one of Birmingham’s sleekest venues. The Dirty Martini team will mix up two signature cocktails – the Sky-Blue Martini and the Lychee & Coconut Martini – plus a refreshing mocktail, the PG Pornstar. Expect flair, flavour, and a perfect send-off to a day of culinary inspiration.

Meet Phil Oldershaw – Your Host for the Colmore Food Festival

We welcome back Phil Oldershaw, who is a celebrated broadcaster, presenter, entrepreneur, and hospitality guru with a true passion for food. As the regular host of the Colmore Food Festival, Phil brings his trademark energy, charm, and deep knowledge of Birmingham’s vibrant food scene to the heart of the city each year.
With a career spanning over three decades, Phil has hosted major national events including royal celebrations and the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games. He’s also a familiar face from TV appearances like Come Dine With Me, and Good Morning Britain, and a presenter on Birmingham’s BRMB Radio, as well as a key figure in Birmingham’s hospitality industry, and creator and host of Birmingham Pride!
Known for his professionalism, humour and flair, Phil makes every festival moment feel memorable. His love for local food and people shines through, making him the perfect ambassador for the Colmore Food Festival.
