Fibre Optic Project Delivers Faster Broadband for District
Hundreds of Business District companies will benefit from faster broadband after the BID partnered with BT Openreach to upgrade one of the area’s street cabinets to handle fibre optic cables.
BT Openreach’s Community Fibre Partnerships scheme joint-funded an investment from the BID to receive their fibre-to-the-Cabinet (FTTC) based ‘fibre broadband’ network.
FTTC involves running fibre optic cables from the telephone exchange or distribution point to street cabinets which then connect to a standard phone line to provide broadband.
The BID board is now considering rolling out a programme with BT Openreach during BID3 to upgrade all the cabinets in the BID area over the next five years.
