Mike is a Projects Manager at the Colmore BID. Mike joined Colmore BID in 2013 and looks after our Outstanding Places Working Group.
Outstanding Places cares about the way Colmore Business District looks, and this Working Group has delivered award winning public realm improvements to the district in addition to art projects, seasonal decorations and summer flowers. These schemes are complimented by our work to improve the way that people move through and around the district.
Mike has a background in civil engineering and spent three decades in transport and highways, working in the public, private and third sectors. His education is a bit broader than his engineering origins would indicate, with more recent degrees in art history, philosophy and psychology as well as a postgrad qualification in management.
He ran his own road safety consultancy for ten years from 2002 but re-booted his career in 2012 by starting his own social enterprise, The Wisdom Factory CIC, providing research, training and organisational advice mainly to the Birmingham business community. They also develop tech-based projects. They have a small grant fund aimed at local good causes, voluntary groups and other social enterprises.
Mike moved to Birmingham 8 years ago, after living in Nottingham and Chester, and being raised in Stoke. Birmingham is the best place he has lived in; the mix of cool lifestyle, varied cultures and friendly people is hard to resist.
Mike is currently responsible for managing the delivery of further public realm improvements which form part of Colmore Business District's contribution to the Snow Hill Masterplan.
