BIDs team up to foil burglar

10 July 2019

Colmore BID security officers teamed up with their counterparts at Retail BID, the police and the council’s street intervention team to put a stop to a recent spate of burglaries across both areas and the wider city centre.

Following reports of several break-ins and after reviewing intelligence – including CCTV footage of the crimes – Colmore BID’s security patrol officers coordinated efforts to tackle the problem. After spotting the suspect while on walkabout in the District, the team worked quickly with Retail BID colleagues to confirm identity, pursue and then detain the individual until the police arrived on scene to make an arrest.

Aaron Payne, Colmore BID Security Supervisor, said:

“This was a great example of teamwork and just shows the value partnership working plays in tackling city centre crime. We’re pleased that an arrest has been made on this occasion. It’s a good result but of course I would urge businesses within the District to always keep an eye out – as we do – for this and other sorts of criminal activity. As this case highlights, by working together we can all make a contribution to cutting crime in the city!”
