Kitchen by Liquid launches cookery school in heart of Birmingham

18 October 2022

Kitchen by Liquid, a new business offering from award-winning communications agency Liquid, has launched a cookery school in its in-house, state-of-the-art development kitchen.

Based on Waterloo Street in Birmingham city centre, the cookery school offers both practical experiences and expert masterclasses led by Development Chef, Olivier Briault, and Chef Director, David Colcombe.

The new offering, which caters to a variety of skill levels and covers several cuisines, follows the successful launch of Liquid by Kitchen’s studio space earlier this year.

Olivier has used his prior experience as recipe developer at M&S, as well as producing award-winning patisserie for Michelin-starred restaurant Simpsons, to develop the classes. With the support of David – who previously ran a successful AA rosette restaurant in the city for 10 years – three different masterclasses will be on offer, each for groups of up to six people. These will involve learning practical skills to make macarons, choux pastry and some impressive afternoon tea patisseries.

The macarons practical classes will offer the chance to learn by hand how to make macarons with a wide variety of fillings. Following expert demonstrations, attendees will be able to make their own macarons, with a box to take home.

The choux pastry demonstration masterclasses will see attendees taught the secrets of Parisian patisserie, watching Olivier produce traditional treats such as choux puffs, chocolate eclairs and croquembouche.

The afternoon tea patisseries demonstration masterclasses will provide the perfect mix of French and British cuisine, with attendees being shown everything they need to know to make the sweet treats you’d expect to see as part of an afternoon tea, before sitting down to enjoy the fruits of their labour.

As well as the three masterclasses, Olivier and David can also offer bespoke, tailored cookery school sessions for a variety of occasions, including parties and company team building days.

Olivier Briault, Development Chef at Kitchen by Liquid, commented: “We’re so excited to be launching the cookery school as a second step in the Kitchen by Liquid journey. I can’t wait to share my experience and love for all things pastry with people.”

David Colcombe, Chef Director, added: “We’re starting with three different classes so there will be something for everyone and it’s perfect timing in the run up to Christmas. We have the ideal space to host groups of budding chefs for get-togethers or a Christmas party with a difference, and we can even offer gift vouchers for those struggling with Christmas shopping!”

Masterclasses are taking place from Saturday 15 October, with prices starting from £75 per person.
