Birmingham Open Studios 2024: Birmingham’s Biggest Art Trail

30 September 2024

October 5–6 2024. 11am-5pm.

The hotly anticipated and much loved Birmingham Open Studios (BOS) is back againfor the eighth year running. A regular fixture in Birmingham’s cultural and creative calendar, this year’s arts trail features 165 artists and groups, and has improved accessibility. Founded in 2017 and limited to Moseley and Kings Heath, the event now covers most of the city, boasting venues from Erdington to Kings Norton.

BOS is an art experience like no other in Birmingham. The event encourages creativity, artistic growth, local trade, and fosters a spirit of community in the local area.

Thousands of visitors are expected over the two weekends across all 74 participating venues.

Local comedian, celebrity and artist Joe Lycett is proud to be Birmingham Open Studios’ ambassador for the 2nd year running.

BOS allows artists at all levels to participate equally, showcase their creations and demonstrate their skills to the public. Some artists are at the start of their creative careers whereas others are seasoned professionals. Each artist’s home or studio is unique. Some will offer live demonstrations of their craft, workshops or refreshments. Venues also include community centres, cafes and galleries.

Visitors can discover local artists, as well as artists from the wider area, to ask questions about techniques, and enjoy a look behind the scenes at real working studios. Artwork can be bought directly from the artists, commission-free.

To make the event more accessible, BOS Crowdfunded to develop an app for the 2024 event. The app is free to download, available for Android and iPhone. It is the best way to discover artists in your area, get directions, filter artists by date or media type, and create favourites.

The website, guidebook and app also list wheelchair accessible studios, and artists offering live demonstrations.

Free guidebooks are available from various locations across the city (see website), or view full list of artists at: birminghamopenstudios.co.uk.
