103 launches exciting new art exhibition space ‘The Wall’

21 February 2025

A new art exhibition space has been launched at 103 Colmore Row in Colmore Business District, providing emerging Birmingham artists with the opportunity to showcase and sell their work.

Located in the ground floor reception, The Wall@103 will be accessible to both occupiers and visitors to the 26-storey office building.

The art on display will change regularly, with a new artist exhibiting their work every six weeks.

Andrew Hawkins, development director at Sterling Property Ventures, said The Wall continues the building’s legacy of supporting the arts.

“Art has played a big part at 103 Colmore Row, from the old NatWest Tower doors, now proudly hung in the ground floor Orelle restaurant, to the ‘Equinox’ suspended sculpture outside the building and exhibition celebrating the life and work of Birmingham sculptor John Pickering.

“The Wall@103 builds on this legacy, supporting local artists who otherwise wouldn’t get the opportunity to show their work in public by providing them with a free exhibition space.”

To launch The Wall, award-winning Birmingham artist Ava Khera will be exhibiting a collection of her signature figurative oil paintings.

“We’re really excited to have Ava as The Wall’s first artist,” said Andrew. “She is making waves in the art world, having won numerous awards for her work. We couldn’t think of anyone better to launch the project.”

Winner of the first prize in Colmore BID‘s inaugural ‘Birmingham Creates: The Open’ 2024 competition, in 2023 Ava also received the Women in Art Flux Prize in London and exhibited at the Mall Galleries with the first Annual Women in Art Fair.

Originally from Kingston upon Thames but now living in Birmingham, Ava previously worked as a designer in London for luxury fashion labels before deciding to pursue a career as a full-time artist in 2020.

Ava said: “This is the first time a collection of my paintings has been exhibited in Birmingham, which is really exciting. As my adopted home city, being given the opportunity to showcase my work to the people who live and work here is a real honour and privilege.

“The Wall not only provide a platform for local artists, it makes art more accessible to people who wouldn’t necessarily visit a gallery, thus breaking down barriers to entry. It’s a great initiative and more buildings should be encouraged to do it.”

Ava’s work will be on display from 20 February until 3 April 2025. The Wall is available to view seven days a week, from 9am to 5.30pm.
