New Initiative ‘BRUMWIM’ Unites Female Directors, Leaders, and Professionals in the region
09 April 2025
BRUMWIM (Birmingham Women in Marketing), is an initiative to unite women in marketing and creative industries, based in the West Midlands, hosting a series of events to provide a platform for women to tackle critical issues in the workplace.
BRUMWIM was spearheaded by Fran Nolan, founder of award-winning local creative content agency Tribera, out of frustration with the lack of meaningful support for professional women in the Midlands, often overshadowed by London and Manchester.
The initiative kicked off in 2024 with an intimate dinner at The Ivy, uniting 10 of Birmingham’s most influential female marketing leaders. Following its success, ‘Know Your Worth’ marked BRUMWIM’s next bold step, featuring an expert panel of powerhouse women sharing practical advice, insights, and lived experiences.
The next two events included a mentoring scheme which has now been fully implemented, partnering up 64 women across the region to offer guidance and skills, followed by an iconic talk from Lou Featherstone at the most recent ‘Zero F*ck$’ event, which wasn’t your average networking evening.
Lou encouraged BRUMWIM’s community to embrace their authentic selves, sharing her wisdom on unlocking their full potential with insights on being your true self, the power of no, boundaries, and giving zero f*cks! All of which can be implemented into not only their workplace, but their personal lives too.
Founder, Fran Nolan, emphasised on BRUMWIM’s next steps:
“We’re not here to ask for change politely. BRUMWIM is demanding real action. Championing gender equality, promoting Birmingham’s incredible creative talent, and empowering women to break down barriers like the pay gap and career progression challenges. From our first event with the Founding 10, it was clear that this community is integral to the city’s growth. Uniting these women was just the beginning, revealing the deep hunger for progress.
“Our community is growing, and brick by brick, we’re building something extraordinary.”
With three sold-out events at the iconic Alpha Tower, BRUMWIM invites you to register for their upcoming events, ‘Made in Brum’ on Thursday 15 May, and ‘Breaking Barriers’ on Thursday 10 July.
‘Made in Brum’ will host 2 local female entrepreneurs of 2 iconic Birmingham brands as keynote speakers who will be discussing their story and entrepreneurial journeys and opening the floor to questions, with networking straight after, while ‘Breaking Barriers’ will be an opportunity to discuss diversity in the workplace, LGBTQ+ representation, and breaking financial barriers with a panel and networking opportunities.
BRUMWIM will continue to demand real change in the Midlands and its three key objectives are clear:
- Champion Gender Equality – Advocate for equal opportunities and representation for women across Birmingham’s industries.
- Promote Birmingham’s Marketing & Creative Industries – Elevate Birmingham’s creative sector by showcasing local talent, encouraging creative innovation, and driving visibility.
- Build Confidence – Empower women to overcome barriers such as access to the industry, the pay gap, career progression challenges, and the pressures of returning from maternity leave.
