Transport for West Midlands launches Sprint Phase 2 Consultation
22 April 2025
Transport for West Midlands (TfWM) will soon be starting work on the completion of Phase 2 of the Sprint scheme, to create a bus priority corridor linking Walsall with Solihull via Birmingham city centre.
This will see the introduction of further bus priority measures along Lancaster Circus underpass / James Watt Queensway and Moor Street, including the further installation of new Sprint shelters along the route.
This will complete the Sprint corridor in Birmingham, with work expected to begin later in the year.
Transport for West Midlands is running a consultation on the Phase 2 proposals in Birmingham City Centre. This runs from 14 April until 2 May 2025.
Proposals include:
- Buses only proposal through the Lancaster Circus underpass, in both directions.
- Improved pedestrian crossing on James Watt Queensway, including new central island bus stop and connections to Aston University and the city centre.
- One traffic lane reduction on James Watt Queensway northbound towards Lancaster Circus
- Improved pedestrian footway and crossing facilities in Corporation Street and bus only access to James Watt Queensway.
Please go to sprintphase2.commonplace.is to complete the short on-line questionnaire.
The consultation closes on 2 May 2025. Please ensure you submit your response before this date as anything after this date may not be considered under the formal consultation process.
