City Curator Highlights: Week 6
As I write this we’ve just hit day 33 of the 100 days of Creativity – it really has just flown by! Reflecting on the days just passed, I had the pleasure of experiencing a whole host of the events and activities within the programme.
A personal highlight was the 1000 Threads fashion show, a collaboration between BCU and Style Birmingham, and an incredibly successful one at that. The event was such a wonderful reminder of the exceedingly talented emerging creatives we have in this city and I’m thrilled that the 100 Days of Creativity campaign has been able to be play a role in shining a light on this.
Without further ado, here are my four recommendation for 24 – 30 June:
Birmingham Indian Film Festival

Birmingham Indian Film Festival returns with a whole bunch of unmissable premiers. This is your chance to explore the very best of South Asian film. The festival takes place at venues across the city including The Mockingbird, MAC and Broad Street’s Cineworld. Birmingham Royal Ballet X Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery

26 – 29 June
This is my kind of collab. Birmingham Royal Ballet have joined forces with Birmingham Museums Trust on a whole host of grown-up events. From adult ballet classes and after-hours performances to a Tutu workshop (with cake and a glass of fizz thrown in for good measure).
I like the look of ‘A Night at the Museum’ which includes a world premier of new BRB work plus the opportunity to enjoy the exhibition I keep raving about, Victorian Radicals.

Secret Space: Digbeth
28 June
A brand new event in the Birmingham calendar that will see over 70 local makers and small business owners come together to showcase fantastic locally made & sourced products.
This isn’t just a shopping event though, Sarah Sweeney from Eves’ Drop Collective will be on the decks keeping you entertained; expect funk, soul, disco, hip hop, house and jazz all night long. Plus, if you get peckish you’ll find plenty of Street Food vendors to choose from.
These events have been super popular elsewhere in the UK so it’s exciting to see these guys producing for Brum too.
