Community Games to benefit Children’s Liver Disease Foundation

The Children’s Liver Disease Foundation (CLDF) is the beneficiary of this year’s Community Games.
Thanking Colmore BID for its support, CEO Rebecca Cooper said:

‘We are so grateful that Colmore Business District has chosen us to be the beneficiary of the Community Games. We’re the only UK charity dedicated to fighting all childhood liver diseases which are rare, complex and often life-threatening, and we rely on voluntary donations. The funds raised at the Games will make a real difference to children, young people and families whose lives have been changed by a diagnosis of childhood liver disease.’

Who are the Children’s Liver Disease Foundation?

Located in Great Charles Street, Birmingham, the Children’s Liver Disease Foundation (CLDF) is a national charity which provides emotional support and practical assistance to over 4,000 children, young people and their families across the UK.

CLDF has been supporting children and families with liver disease for over 40 years. The charity was founded by a family who had lost their son to liver disease. The experience of living with childhood liver disease, and the impact that this has on children and their families, remains at the heart of our work.

The CLDF was instrumental in getting three UK centres of excellence recognised for paediatric liver care, which has resulted in improved child liver transplant success rates. The British Medical Association awarded them for their children’s information literature and their Yellow Alert campaign is endorsed by leading UK health organisations, including The Royal College of Nursing.

Their vision is a world in which young adults and children are not limited by their liver disease; where childhood liver diseases will be understood, prevented and treated effectively, so that every child affected achieves their full potential.

How money raised from the Community Games could help

The money raised from the Community Games will contribute to funding, for example:

  • Yellow Alert information for health professionals to help them identify liver disease in babies and being treatment as quickly as possible
  • Supply and printing of a suite of liver disease information leaflets for use by health professionals and their families
  • Support Service which, every year, provides over 4,500 hours of emotional and practical support to children, young people, and their families
