Walk with Women

12 December 2023
17:30 - 19:00
Bull Street, Birmingham, UK

Women & girls have the right to feel safe within our publicly accessible locations. However we know the reality is somewhat different, particularly in city centre locations.

A recent YouGov survey showed 4 out of 5 women do not feel safe whilst out walking alone at night, and over 80% of women aged 18 – 34 have experienced sexual harassment in a public place (UN Women UK survey – 2021).

Colmore BID is helping to tackle ‘Violence, Intimidation & Abuse of Women & Girls’ (VAIWG) through its ground-breaking Colmore Women’s Safety Forum & virtual Network. A number of initiatives and partnerships have been created to facilitate both welcoming and safe experiences for any women who work, visit or pass thought the Colmore Business District.

On Tuesday 21th December our Colmore Women’s Safety Forum will proudly host this ‘Walk with Women’ event, to highlight the issues of women’s safety whilst in public spaces. Our planned walk will include many stop-off locations, including hospitality venues participating in the Licensing SAVI and ‘Ask for Angela’ campaigns, national police safety award accredited public car parks, and an update from the West Midlands Safer Travel Partnership on their personal safety projects and campaigns.

We are also honoured that our friends for The Hollie Gazzard Trust will be joining us to speak about their Hollie Guard personal safety app (the only-type app accredited by the National Police Chiefs Council).

Participation in this event is free via our Eventbrite registration process. Please note the walk will start at 5.30pm promptly, therefore walkers should arrive in good time so they can be checked-in and briefed. The meeting point is Bull Street at the junction of Corporation Street, Birmingham (alongside The Square Peg public house).
