Birmingham Mind: Mental Health Support Tailored to You

Birmingham Mind is here to help individuals across Birmingham navigate their mental health journey with care and understanding. Offering a range of person-centred services, they are committed to helping people lead meaningful lives and reach their full potential.

Their support includes the Central Birmingham Wellbeing Hub, situated in the Bullring, which hosts wellbeing sessions tailored to specific audiences, and additional hubs across Greater Birmingham offering drop-in sessions. For immediate assistance, Birmingham Mind’s helpline is available every day from 9 am to 11 pm at 0121 262 3555 (Freephone 0800 915 9292). They also provide long-term care through two residential homes, offering a safe and supportive environment.

The Samaritans: Always Here to Listen

For over 60 years, the Birmingham branch of The Samaritans has been a lifeline for those in need of someone to talk to. Today, their dedicated team continues to provide compassionate, non-judgmental support from their branch on Bow Street, just behind the O2 Academy.

The Samaritans offer a range of services to support mental health and wellbeing, including their 24/7 free helpline, accessible by calling 116 123, and email support via jo@samaritans.org. They also engage in community outreach through schools and prisons, working to reach those who need them most.

Birmingham Healthy Minds: Accessible Support for Depression and Anxiety

Birmingham Healthy Minds is an NHS primary care service offering psychological therapies to support individuals experiencing symptoms of low mood, depression, or anxiety. Designed to help you better understand and manage these symptoms, the service is available to anyone aged 16 or over who is registered with a Birmingham GP.

Accessing the service is straightforward—you can self-refer by completing a referral form, calling 0121 301 2525, or texting ‘BHM’ to 60777. Deaf or hard-of-hearing individuals can contact the service via text relay on 81001, text the word ‘DEAF’ to 60777, or email their details to bsmhft.bhm@nhs.net. Referrals can also be made through your GP.

Please note that those already under the care of a mental health team should speak to their team before self-referring. Birmingham Healthy Minds is committed to providing accessible, tailored support to help you regain control and improve your wellbeing.

Carrs Lane Counselling Service: Affordable and Accessible Counselling in Birmingham

Located in the heart of Birmingham, Carrs Lane Counselling Service offers a welcoming space for adults seeking low-cost, high-quality counselling. For over 50 years, the centre has been dedicated to helping individuals navigate life’s challenges through professional support tailored to their needs.

Carrs Lane provides individual, one-to-one counselling sessions through face-to-face, telephone, or video appointments. Each session lasts up to 50 minutes and is offered weekly, giving clients the flexibility to choose what works best for their circumstances.

While not a crisis service, the centre is committed to providing a compassionate and professional environment for adults facing a range of personal issues. Clients are encouraged to review their FAQ page for detailed information before reaching out to schedule an appointment.

Opening Times
The centre operates Monday to Thursday, with reception hours from 9 am to 5 pm. Face-to-face counselling is available during the day, with extended evening hours on Tuesdays. Telephone and video sessions follow a similar schedule, starting slightly earlier at 9 am.

Appointments are required, as Carrs Lane is not a drop-in service.
