Help Everyone to have a Merry Christmas

05 December 2019

As the Christmas season gets into full swing it can be easy to forget how difficult it is for those struggling to make ends meet. This week, Channel 4’s Dispatches documentary revealed how 1 in 3 children in the UK are now growing up in poverty. The documentary features Cameron and his sisters talking candidly about the Food Bank they regularly attend to help them make ends meet.

Colmore BID supports Sifa Fireside, a charity that provides help to homeless people within the city. In consultation with them, we are collecting food for the B30 Trussell Trust Food Bank this Christmas. Donations to the Food Bank, which has seen a 26% increase in use this year, could help to ease the mounting financial pressures faced by households over Christmas, reduce the risk of homelessness for a family, or simply make Christmas Day feel as special as it should.  B30 Food Bank are particularly looking for meat, sugar, Smash, tinned custard, coffee, hot chocolate, squash and tinned macaroni cheese, but any donations are gratefully received.

We are inviting people in the District to donate whatever food they can to this lifeline service. Donations can be left at our office, 37a Waterloo Street (next to Dirty Martini) during office hours, except Thursday Afternoon.  We can also come to your office to collect items. The first 30 people to drop off two or more items between 12.00 pm and 2.00 pm on Monday 9 December will receive a Colmore BID Goody Bag!

We will be taking donations to the Food Bank on the morning of Friday 13 December.
