Unlock Potential: Offer a Quality Work Placement to a 16-18-Year-Old Pre-Apprentice
06 December 2024
Are you ready to help shape the workforce of tomorrow? By offering a 10-week pre-apprenticeship work placement, businesses in the Colmore Business District can have a lasting impact on a young person’s career while reaping valuable benefits for their organisation.
Protocol is committed to supporting local learners aged 16-18 in securing meaningful work experience as part of their pre-apprenticeship programme. With a focus on Business Administration/HR, Customer Service, and Digital/IT, Protocol’s latest cohort will be available to begin work placements in January 2025.
Why Support a Pre-Apprentice?
A pre-apprenticeship is an excellent opportunity for businesses to make a tangible difference in the lives of young people. For employers, offering a work placement allows them to contribute to the development of the next generation of workers. For young learners, it provides an invaluable opportunity to gain real-world experience that will set them on the path to a successful career.
Here’s how the programme works:
- 10 Weeks of Training: Learners spend the first 10 weeks receiving high-quality training at Protocol’s offices to equip them with essential skills for the workplace.
- Work Placement: Following their training, learners spend up to 10 weeks working with employers, gaining hands-on experience (4 days a week, with a maximum of 5.5 hours per day).
- Ongoing Support: Learners continue to receive support from Protocol throughout their placement, attending one day a week at the training provider’s offices to further develop their skills.
- Employer Benefits: At the end of the placement, employers can offer an interview for a job or apprenticeship, if available, or provide a reference and an exit interview to assist the learner in moving forward in their career.
What’s In It for Employers?
Offering a pre-apprenticeship placement comes with a wide range of benefits for businesses:
- Employer Incentive: Employers receive a financial incentive upon successful completion of the 10-week placement, acknowledging their role in developing young talent.
- Fresh Perspective: Pre-apprentices bring new energy, creativity, and ideas. Their fresh perspective can inspire innovation and positive changes within a team.
- Support Workforce Development: By mentoring and guiding pre-apprentices, employers can shape future employees who align with their organisation’s standards and culture.
- Boost to CSR: Offering work placements can enhance a company’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) profile, demonstrating a commitment to supporting the local community and youth development.
- Long-term Recruitment Potential: The pre-apprenticeship placement offers employers the opportunity to assess potential future employees in a real-world setting, ensuring a good fit with their business needs.
Why Invest in a Pre-Apprentice?
Investing in a pre-apprentice is about more than just filling a short-term need. It’s an opportunity for employers to contribute to the future of their industry and workforce. Through the pre-apprenticeship programme, businesses can play a crucial role in helping young people gain confidence, develop their skills, and realise their potential.
Ready to Make a Difference?
By offering a pre-apprenticeship placement, businesses can support the next generation of skilled workers while benefiting from all the advantages that come with it. Protocol can help employers find the right candidates, guide them through the process, and ensure that both the organisation and the young learner thrive from the experience.
Together, employers and young learners can create a stronger, more skilled workforce for tomorrow.
