Small Steps to a Healthier You: Promoting Long-Term Wellbeing with the BDA

The British Dietetic Association (BDA), whose offices are situated in the Colmore Business District, have launched a new campaign for 2025, ‘Small Steps to a Healthier You’, which encourages individuals to take sustainable actions to improve their overall health and wellbeing.

Recent research by YouGov and the BDA highlights that over 40% of British adults are not prioritising their future health. Instead, weight management remains a top health focus for 2025, with 22% of respondents listing it as their main priority. While dietitian’s acknowledge the importance of maintaining a healthy weight, they emphasise that overall health behaviours, such as improving diet, hydration, sleep, and mental health, are far more impactful in the long run.

Priya Tew, a Registered Dietitian, explains, “Weight is not a good predictor of health. Instead of focusing on weight loss, we should aim to improve our overall health behaviours, which will benefit us for years to come.”

The BDA’s new free toolkit, ‘Small Steps to a Healthier You’, offers practical advice for making small, sustainable changes. From adding nutrient-rich foods to meals to prioritising sleep and physical activity, the toolkit helps individuals develop healthier habits without relying on drastic resolutions.

Claire Fudge, another Registered Dietitian, notes, “Small changes—like eating more vegetables, staying hydrated, and balancing your diet—may not sound exciting, but they are maintainable and truly beneficial for overall health.”
