Colmore BID Supports White Ribbon UK’s “Right to Respect” Campaign to Prevent Workplace Harassment
09 June 2025
Colmore Business District (BID) is proud to support White Ribbon UK’s groundbreaking June campaign, “Right to Respect.”
With a firm commitment to cultivating safe, respectful, and inclusive workplaces and public spaces through Safe & Sound, Colmore BID is backing White Ribbon UK’s campaign in addressing workplace harassment, bullying, and verbal abuse—a challenge that affects the lives and well-being of countless individuals across the country.
The “Right to Respect” campaign, set to run throughout June 2025, is a proactive initiative designed to empower employers to take preventive measures rather than merely reacting to incidents. In the wake of the Worker Protection Act 2023 — which now legally obliges employers to establish a safe and respectful workplace— the campaign arrives at a critical juncture for UK businesses.
By aligning with this campaign, Colmore BID is spearheading the effort to create environments where respect, dignity, and equality are more than just aspirational ideals; they are lived experiences for every employee.
Workplace harassment is not a new issue, but recent statistics reveal an alarming trend. According to surveys referenced by White Ribbon UK, three in five women have been subjected to sexual harassment, bullying, or verbal abuse at work. Such distressing figures underscore the urgent need for organisations to transform their cultures and policies, placing prevention at the forefront of their operating procedures.
At Colmore BID, we believe that every member of our community deserves to thrive in an environment free from fear and disrespect and have introduced several forums and initiatives to help our community share their experiences and address issues. This campaign reinforces our ongoing commitment to both employee well-being and broader societal change.
The introduction of the Worker Protection Act 2023 has fundamentally reshaped the responsibilities of employers, shifting the focus from reaction to prevention. Employers now possess a clear, legal duty to identify and mitigate risks related to harassment in their workplaces.
Through the “Right to Respect” campaign, White Ribbon UK is providing an array of tools, resources, and expert guidance to help organisations understand and fulfill these responsibilities. Colmore BID will be integrating these tools, ensuring that every level of our team, and our businesses, are equipped with the knowledge and resources to both recognize and safely address incidents of workplace harassment.
Paul Street, Safe & Sound Project Manager at Colmore BID said: “Our support for the ‘Right to Respect’ campaign is a natural extension of our organisation’s core values. We are committed to modelling best practices for workplace safety by championing initiatives that empower employees and set the standard for respectful behaviour across all sectors – whether that’s our on-street presence, Safe & Sound Working Group or the Colmore Women’s Safety Forum.
With the new legal requirements in place, this is the perfect time for all organisations to re-evaluate their internal policies and progress towards a culture where everyone’s right to respect is guaranteed.”
Our partnership with White Ribbon UK underscores a shared vision: a future where workplace harassment is eradicated, and every employee feels valued and supported. Colmore BID remains steadfast in our commitment to creating safer, more inclusive workspaces and is proud to help lead the change.
