Birmingham Launches Tourism & Hospitality Skills Bootcamps

Birmingham City Council is partnering with Solihull College to deliver a pilot Skills Bootcamp project for local residents who are either looking to start a career in, or are already working within, the tourism and hospitality sector. Funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, these five-day bootcamps will take place in the new year and focus on priority skills identified by VisitEngland and the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS).
Bootcamp 1 – Entering the Tourism & Hospitality Sector
This bootcamp is designed for residents currently not in employment or education, preparing participants for a career in tourism and hospitality. Key topics include:
- Customer service
- Workplace skills and behaviours
- Employability and job readiness
Businesses interested in getting involved, whether by sharing expertise, hosting training spaces, or offering guaranteed interviews, can contact employerservices@solihull.ac.uk.
Bootcamp 2 – Upskilling for Supervisory & Management Roles
Targeted at visitor economy organisations, this bootcamp helps staff develop skills for supervisory or management roles. Topics covered include:
- Service excellence
- Team management and communication
- Working with volunteers
