Brindleyplace Achieves ‘Green’ Modeshift Stars Travel Plan Accreditation During Travelwise Week

20th September 2023 – Brindleyplace, Birmingham. In a first for mixed-use estates across Birmingham, Brindleyplace has been awarded a ‘Green/Approved’ Modeshift STARS Travel Plan accreditation. The ‘green’ accreditation is the first in a five-step scheme which recognises an organisation’s ongoing commitment to providing sustainable travel for employees and visitors.
During a Travelwise Week breakfast meeting hosted by x+why in Foundry, 6 Brindleyplace, Councillor Liz Clements, Cabinet Member for Transport at Birmingham City Council presented Matt Long, Senior Asset Manager for Praxis at Brindleyplace, the award which rewards work undertaken in the sustainable travel field.
Brindleyplace has excellent public transport, walking and cycling connections and is accessible from all over the city. There are also great facilities on site which support sustainable travel such as cycle storage both in many of the office buildings and externally across the estate along with EV charging stations.
Brompton bikes, West Midlands Cycles and Beryl e-bikes and scooters are available for hire and electric maintenance buggies help to reduce reliance on fossil fuels for visitors, tenants and staff alike.
Multiple buses are routed by Brindleyplace and the Metro stops right outside the estate on Broad Street. Visitors arriving in Birmingham at either New Street or Snow Hill railway stations can get to Brindleyplace via connections with the Metro, or by a short walk.
Speaking of the award, Matt Long, said: “We have worked hard to make sure that Brindleyplace is easily accessible to everyone, and we continue to invest significantly in the buildings and public realm to ensure those who want to use public transport or cycle to the estate are able to do so.
“Many of the office buildings have showers and changing facilities and tenants are kept up to date about public travel options via the Brindley Life App.
“By adopting a Green Travel Plan we intend to maximise on the fantastic public transport network around Brindleyplace and improve facilities for everyone whoworks on or visits the estate”.
Mel Cannell, Principal Travel Demand Management Officer at Birmingham City Council added: “The Brindleyplace team is doing fantastic work to ensure active and sustainable travel is the best option for people working, visiting or living in the area. By participating in the Modeshift STARS scheme, the team is able to build on the work they are already doing, identify aims for the future and continue contributing to a reduction in air pollution levels and congestion.
“We are delighted that the Brindleyplace team has achieved Modeshift STARS Approved Accreditation for their Travel Plan and we look forward to working with them, and other organisations in Brindleyplace, to progress this further”.
The Brindleyplace Travel Plan includes:
– Improving and promoting facilities for people who wish to cycle (e.g. West Midlands Cycle Hire/showers/cycle storage)
– Providing up to date public transport and cycle hire information through the Brindley Life App
– Creating a promotional video to support recruitment with information about the fantastic walking, cycling and public transport options in the area
– Taking part in campaigns such as TravelWise Week
– Organising events that promote active travel for better health and wellbeing
Through their Travel Plan the Brindleyplace team are looking at how they can build upon the improvements made to date and continue working successfully with all Brindleyplace tenants and partners to make active and sustainable travel the ‘go to’ option for more people.
