The rewarding role of Chair – Colmore Women’s Safety Forum

Tell us a bit about you, your name and role in your organisation
Hi, my name is Jasmine and I am a Building Manager for CBRE, working within the Colmore Business District. I’ve worked in the area since 2016, starting as a receptionist and working my way up to managing one of the biggest properties in Birmingham city centre.
Why did you join the Colmore Women’s Safety Forum?
I joined the Colmore Women’s Safety Forum after having a conversation with a staff member of a tenant in the building I manage. She worked late nights and was concerned about walking to her transportation hub alone after her shift finished.
I conducted some research about what was available for her and my other occupiers, which is when I attended a Colmore ‘Network and Drink’ event and discovered the Women’s Safety Forum. I enquired and was able to get a place within the Forum. It was then that I could share the safety elements already in place in the Colmore District with my colleagues and participate in the forum to learn about the further project work the team are delivering around women’s safety in the area. Being able to relay this information to the staff member and seeing the visible relief that Women’s Safety is taken seriously in the Colmore District was, and still is, incredibly rewarding.
What does being a Forum member involve?
As the Women’s Safety Forum Chair, my role involves directing the meetings to enable everyone to have a say on women’s safety in the Colmore District. It also includes working alongside the Colmore BID team to see which initiatives, policies, information services and events to share with the Forum members and businesses within the District regarding women’s safety and violence against women and girls.
What do you enjoy the most about being part of the Forum?
Every Forum meeting I am in awe of the members. Everyone brings their own unique aspects and abilities surrounding Women’s Safety, and it’s so inspiring to be sat in a room of these individuals who all have the same goal – women’s safety. I always feel so inspired after every meeting and incredibly positive for the future.
