Women’s Safety Awareness Event ‘New Year, Same Fear’
New Year is usually a time for resolutions, fresh starts and improved lifestyles – not so for women & girls experiencing violence, abuse, intimidation and fear from men.
UK Police tell us 2 million women (1 in 12) will be victims of violence against women & girls (VAWG) every year, leading to VAWG being declared a national Tier 1 ‘threat to public safety’.
30% of the UK’s working population will experience a form of sexual harassment, and 40% of women experience sexual harassment during their career (source: Lloyds Register Foundation 2023). 75% of domestic abuse victims are targeted by their abusers in the workplace (source: British safety Council 2023).
It’s time to stand up, speak up and stamp out VAWG within the Colmore Business District.
Join the Colmore Women’s Safety Forum on their ‘New Year, Same Fear’ awareness event; a hybrid of a short walking route and four 20-minute masterclass sessions focusing on some of the key women’s safety issues Colmore BID are tackling alongside valued partners.
Hear from:
West Midlands Safer Travel Partnership – speaking about how they help to keep our public transport hubs and network services safe for women & girls.
The Hollie Gazzard Trust – demonstrating how their ground-breaking & police accredited Hollie Guard personal safety app has proven to help save women from serious harm.
WAITS and RSVP – hear from two of our resident VAWG specialist service providers on how they support victims and survivors to lead more empowering & fulfilling lives.
Personal Safety Awareness – watch and listen to our internationally renowned female martial arts expert, instructor and acclaimed author as she demonstrates pragmatic and effective personal safety skills and techniques to increase self-confidence, awareness and assertiveness.
There will be opportunities for networking and we are hopeful of providing some light refreshment before departure.
