Proposal to Create a Local Energy Community in Birmingham

06 February 2025

As you probably know, Colmore BID is committed to supporting the West Midlands Combined Authority’s Pledge to become a Net Zero Carbon Economy by 2041.

The Colmore BID business plan sets out ambitions around sustainability, so, we are delighted to announce at our last board meeting we resolved to enter into a collaboration agreement with ConsensusPower to enable and support the setting up of a Local Energy Community in the BID area and beyond.  This agreement is now signed.  We will be having a lot more to say about the project and how you can get involved over the next few weeks.

Paul Fielding, Deputy Chair of Colmore BID and Chair of the Accessible & Sustainable Working Group said: “We have been working on the detail of this exciting project during 2024 and we want to make the most of the opportunity during 2025.”

Robert Knowles, CEO of ConsensusPower added: “We’re delighted to be working collaboration with the Colmore BID, to kick-start the new Birmingham Energy Community.  Over time it will provide tremendous benefits to the environment and to the city’s businesses and communities.”
