Solihull School And RSM UK Are The Winners At Great Birmingham Run Business Challenge
15 May 2023
The winners have been revealed for the 2023 AJ Bell Great Birmingham Run Business Challenge and it was Solihull School who taught their competitors a lesson in long-distance running after being crowned 10k champions.
This year’s AJ Bell Great Birmingham Run took place on Sunday, 7 May, with both the 10k and half marathon starting on Broad Street and finishing at Smithfield in the city centre. More than 12,000 people signed up to take part and were treated to blue skies, energetic music and thousands of cheering spectators.
The Business Challenge is a fast-growing part of the Great Birmingham Run, which encourages a healthy outlook for team members. It offers excellent team building opportunities as workplaces compete for fastest-time trophies.
Neal Corbett, Christopher Guy, William Carroll and Libby Campbell were Solihull School’s four fastest finishers in the 10k distance with a combined time of 3:09:45 and they take the winners’ plaque back to their classrooms.
Solihull School, on Warwick Road, Solihull, is the leading 3-18 independent day school in the West Midlands. They beat teams from ARUP, RSM UK, Lion Picture Framing Supplies, Birmingham Chamber of Commerce and BDO LLP.
In the half marathon Business Challenge, Colmore Row-based audit, tax and consulting advisers RSM UK – who amassed more than 50 team runners in both Great Birmingham Run events – came out winners.
Edward Pryce, Ainsley Wainwright, Tom Ritchie and Samiul Ahmed were the four fastest finishers’ in RSM’s team of 18 half marathon runners with a combined time of 6:15:46.
Among the other companies taking part in the half marathon challenge were Absolute Collagen, Altair Engineering, BDO LLP and Energy Systems Catapult.
Paul Foster, Chief Executive of the Great Run Company, said: “Huge congratulations to Solihull School and RSM UK and a big thank you to all our Business Challenge teams for getting into the competitive but friendly spirit of the event.
“If you’re thinking of rounding up a team for next year, it’s worth considering how the Business Challenge is a great opportunity to focus on charity fundraising and supporting good causes. Great Run events have helped raise over £775 million for charity.”
