As Diwali, the vibrant Hindu festival of lights, approaches, a variety of celebratory events will bring communities together across Birmingham. Recognised for its themes of “light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance,” Diwali is celebrated across multiple religions. Occurring between the Hindu months of Ashvin and Kartika—typically from mid-September to mid-November—the festival lasts several days, filled with traditions, lights, and joy.
Here’s a look at some of the Diwali celebrations happening in Birmingham:
iCAN Birmingham & Allianz – Celebrating Diwali in The Midlands!
On Thursday 21 November, Allianz’s Birmingham office, in the Colmore Business District, will host an evening to celebrate Diwali’s rich traditions and cultural significance. From 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm, guests will be introduced to the mission of the Diwali Basket Brigade, a local volunteer initiative founded by Deepak Parekh, which embodies community service at the heart of Diwali. Attendees can enjoy authentic Indian cuisine, network with professionals in Midlands’ financial sector, and soak in the festivities with traditional music and dance.

Midday Mantra: Diwali Festival of Light at Jennifer Blackwell Performance Space
Sampad’s Midday Mantra series continues with a Diwali Festival of Light celebration on Saturday 2 November at 1 pm. Held at Symphony Hall, the program brings together classical, folk, and contemporary South Asian music for a celebration rich in cultural heritage. Featuring renowned Bhangra musician Shin Parwana and vocalist Priti Kaur, audiences can enjoy a mix of Bollywood hits, Punjabi ghazals. Tickets start from £5.

RSI’s Diwali Celebration at The New Bingley Hall
For an all-out Diwali bash, RSI is hosting its grand celebration on Saturday 9 November at The New Bingley Hall. This event includes a four-course meal, a Bollywood DJ, live performances, and photobooths, creating the perfect backdrop for guests to embrace the festive spirit. With spectacular stage performances and dance, it’s an evening designed for unforgettable memories with family and friends.
