Be Part of Birmingham Light Festival 2025
22 November 2024
Birmingham is about to shine brighter than ever before! From 19–22 February 2025, the city centre will transform into a dazzling gallery of illuminated artworks for the debut of Birmingham Light Festival. This free, multi-day event is set to captivate residents and visitors, encouraging them to explore the city in a whole new light.
The festival is being delivered by the City Curator, a role funded by Colmore BID. The event is a collaboration between all five of Birmingham’s central Business Improvement Districts (BIDs): Colmore BID, Central BID, Southside District, Westside BID, and Jewellery Quarter BID. Together, they are founding partners of this major event, working to brighten February’s dark nights with an unforgettable cultural experience. The festival will be produced by Outdoor Places Unusual Spaces (OPUS), the Birmingham-based organisation behind some of the city’s most iconic cultural moments.
And now, your business can be part of this extraordinary experience.
Why Get Involved?
The festival promises to be a highlight of Birmingham’s cultural calendar, featuring at least eight stunning light installations and an exciting programme of events. By participating, your business can:
- Attract increased footfall during the typically quiet post-Christmas period.
- Showcase your creativity by delivering unique, light-inspired experiences.
- Be part of an official programme that draws visitors from across the region.
The test installation earlier this year, Light is Coming, showed the festival’s potential to significantly boost local trade. Footfall soared by 68%, with attendees sharing overwhelmingly positive feedback. Now, it’s your chance to join the light-filled journey!
What We’re Looking For
We’re inviting local businesses, organisations, and artists to submit their ideas for events, activities, or promotions inspired by the theme of ‘light’. Creativity is key, and the possibilities are endless! Here are a few ideas to spark your imagination:
- Restaurants & Bars: Host exclusive candlelit dinners or launch a light-inspired menu.
- Shops & Galleries: Organise after-hours events, neon-themed workshops, or light-art exhibitions.
- Buildings & Landmarks: Illuminate your premises in a unique way to stand out during the festival.
- Wellness Centres & Studios: Offer special sessions like candlelit yoga or meditation.
- Educational Spaces: Plan talks, lectures, or hands-on workshops exploring the science or art of light.
How to Get Involved
If your business or organisation is ready to bring Birmingham to life in February 2025, we want to hear from you! Submit an ‘Expression of Interest’ outlining your proposed event, activity, or promotion by 5 December 2024.

Why Birmingham Light Festival Matters
The Birmingham Light Festival isn’t just about the lights—it’s about sparking joy, creating community, and supporting the businesses that make our city special. With the backing of Birmingham’s five central BIDs and cultural producers OPUS, this event is set to bring vibrancy and opportunity to the city centre.
As Alex Nicholson-Evans, City Curator, explains:
“We know how much local businesses will benefit from the Festival. We want to see your creative ideas come to life and help illuminate Birmingham in more ways than one.”
