Colmore BID Businesses Called to Inspire the Next Generation Through Monthly Youth Workshops

21 February 2025

Colmore BID members are being invited to step forward and volunteer their time and expertise to support an exciting new social impact project aimed at inspiring and equipping young people with the tools to build a brighter future.

The initiative is seeking businesses from a wide range of sectors to deliver monthly workshops to Year 5 and 6 students (ages 9-11) from Ladywood. Colmore Business District falls into the Ladywood Ward, one of the most deprived wards in the country.

Each session will focus on key themes designed to foster career aspiration, personal development, and social understanding.

The goal of the project is to bridge the gap between education and the working world, offering children early insight into various career paths while helping them build the confidence and knowledge they need to pursue their goals.

Workshops will take place once a month and cover vital topics such as:

  • Career aspirations: Introducing students to different career paths and inspiring them to think ambitiously about their future.
  • Creating opportunities: Encouraging children to explore their potential and see the opportunities available to them.
  • Finding purpose: Helping students identify their strengths, interests, and how these can align with future career and life choices.
  • Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI): Educating young minds about the importance of diversity, fostering a culture of respect, and promoting inclusive practices from an early age.
  • Mentoring: Providing students with guidance and support from experienced professionals to help nurture their confidence and ambition.
  • Financial wellbeing: Equipping children with the fundamental principles of managing money, budgeting, and understanding financial stability.

This is a voluntary initiative, with Colmore BID businesses encouraged to give their time and knowledge to make a lasting social impact. By participating, businesses not only contribute to the development of the next generation but also strengthen their own community engagement and social responsibility efforts.

The workshops will be designed to be interactive and engaging, ensuring that children leave with practical knowledge and a sense of excitement about their future prospects. Businesses will have the opportunity to tailor their workshops based on their areas of expertise while aligning with the overarching themes.

This call-out is particularly suited to Colmore BID businesses passionate about nurturing young talent and fostering inclusive growth. Companies from sectors including technology, finance, healthcare, creative industries, construction, and beyond are all encouraged to get involved.

Kelsey Dwyer, Partnerships & Events Manager at Colmore BID said: “We believe that introducing children to the world of work early can spark their ambition and help them visualise a successful future. We are seeking member businesses that share our vision to step up and help us deliver these workshops. Together, we can inspire and empower the next generation.”
