Summer of fun comes to the District

As the demand for outdoor seating continues to grow in the city centre, we’ve been busy putting plans in place to further enhance the District’s offering with the launch of Summer in the Square, two brand new parklets and further seating in Church Street Square.

In April, Victoria Square was transformed into a brand-new space, featuring seating for 120 people and four beach-style huts where your favourite bars and restaurants will be serving food and drink during the summer months. Delivered in partnership with Retail BID and Birmingham City Council, the space is free for anyone to use, with the seating being open 24/7. The huts will be open on specific dates, with a full programme of summer events being announced soon.

Across the other side of the District, two new parklets have taken root on Church Street following the success of the scheme last year. The new additions, which have been installed outside The Old Royal and Gaucho, bring the grand total number of parklets up to seven and have been welcomed by local hospitality venues who are able to use the space to serve customers.

Additional seating has also been installed on the award-winning Church Street Square, with additional benches providing space for 12 people. Church Street Square was the first public realm enhancement scheme designed and delivered by Colmore BID in partnership with Birmingham City Council and was completed in summer 2012.
