Sustainability & Accessibility Information

Sustainibility

The Colmore Food Festival is proud to promote sustainability through a range of environmentally conscious practices. We are committed to operational approaches that ensure our event supports sustainable outcomes—minimising environmental impact while maximising benefits for the local community.

We are proud to:

  • Have NO single use plastics on site
  • Only use 100% reusable packaging
  • Carefully segment our waste in into sorting stations (general waste, mixed recycling, food recycling, glass recycling and coffee recycling) working in close partnership with our waste supplier FirstMile.
  • Control portion measures to minimise food waste.
  • Enforce price caps on all items to ensure affordability for all guests.
  • Provide free drinking water from any trader.
  • Have a range of bike storage facilities available nearby to the Festival site.
  • Encourage visitors to utilise public transport in their Festival journey.
  • Use electricity as our main energy source, abiding by Birmingham City Council’s ‘Clean Air Zone’ policies.

Accessibility

We’re committed to making the Colmore Food Festival welcoming and enjoyable for everyone.

Here’s what we’ve got in place to support accessibility needs:

  • Wheelchair-Accessible Site: The entire festival area is fully accessible for wheelchair users.
  • Accessible Seating: Two modified picnic benches will be available for accessible seating.
  • Priority Seating: Look out for chairs marked with the sunflower symbol, available on a first come, first served basis (note: these are not deck chairs – see chair details).
  • Trained Volunteers: On Friday from 11:00 to 12:00, volunteers will be on hand to offer additional accessibility support.
  • Sensory Support Zone (Friday, 11:00–12:00): Includes ear defenders, fidget toys, and supportive volunteers.
  • Ear Defenders Available: Available throughout the festival for anyone who needs them.
  • BSL Interpretation: On Saturday at 12:00, Glynn Purnell’s Demo Kitchen session will include a British Sign Language interpreter.
  • First Aid: Qualified first aiders will be present on site at all times.

Please note: The festival includes live entertainment and may get busy, which could be overwhelming for those with sensory sensitivities.

If you have any questions or need assistance, our friendly team is here to help – just ask! If you would like to contact someone before the festival please email kelsey.dwyer@colmorebid.co.uk.
